More and more project owners are seeking LEED certification for their buildings. This full-day course provides an overview of the LEED for New Construction rating system with a focus on the means and methods of construction. Attendees will gain a more complete understanding of their role on a LEED project - helping them remain competitive in an increasingly green market.

Attendees will learn the differences between LEED v2.2 and v3 and the prerequisites and credits within the LEED categories. Attendees will also learn which credits have major, moderate, or some impact on construction practices under the new rating system.

BIM 101: An Introduction to Building Information Modeling

BIM 101 is designed specifically for construction professionals eager to learn the essential concepts of BIM. Those who will also benefit include building developers, owners, managers, supervisors, architects, engineers and construction product manufacturers. Students in the architecture, engineering and construction industry will also greatly benefit from this training.
The full-day course will give participants a comprehensive overview of BIM, supported by case studies to help participants comprehend each session's learning objectives. BIM 101 will introduce important concepts that will be necessary for future BIM courses.

AGC Member Robert Fritz Wins Charter School’s Service Award

Robert Fritz, vice president of Clayco, recently was presented with the Construction Careers Center’s (CCC) Outstanding Service Award for his deep commitment and devotion to the center.

Founded by the AGC of St. Louis and the St. Louis Construction Industry, the CCC is a public, independent, tuition-free high school committed to preparing interested St. Louis High School students with the skills, knowledge and attitudes needed for entry into a career pathway in the St. Louis construction industry.

According to the St. Louis Chapter, Bob Fritz has given a tremendous amount of energy and resources to the development of the CCC. He has encouraged and motivated CCC students to plan and construct a sports field at the school, as well as design and help construct a storage area for shop materials. He has served as a member and vice chairman of the CCC Board of Education and provided leadership to develop a multi-media fund-raising video for the AGC of St. Louis Education Foundation, on which he serves, and to establish an endowment for the CCC. He also serves as a member of AGC of America’s Workforce Development Committee and sits on the LIUNA Training and Education Fund (formerly known as the Laborers-AGC Education and Training Fund).

Clayco is a design/build and construction firm with headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri that operates nationwide. In 2009, Engineering News-Record named Clayco the nation’s 24th-largest design builder and the 96th-largest U.S. contractor.

AGC Releases Unit 2: BIM Technology of the Building Information Modeling Education Program

Unit 2: BIM Technology, the second course in the AGC Building Information Modeling (BIM) Education Program, is now available. BIM Technology covers the common characteristics and differences of BIM applications in use today and specific processes for planning, organizing and deploying BIM tools throughout the life of a project.

Developing a solid understanding of the available BIM solutions, their functionality and how they relate to the various construction phases before purchasing software will significantly aide contractors with overall BIM implementation efforts and increase return on investment.
