AGC Construction Safety Excellence Awards Application Available

Tuesday, September 30, 2008

On September 25, 2008, AGC sent the CSEA applications to Chapters and members for distribution.

The safety and health of the nation’s construction work force is a top priority of AGC and its members. AGC recognizes and rewards safety excellence through two annual awards programs: The Construction Safety Excellence Award (CSEA) and the National AGC Safety Awards (NASA). Participants of the safety programs must be nominated by AGC Chapters and are evaluated on essential elements and elements of excellence.

AGC’s CSEA program recognizes companies that have developed and implemented premier safety and loss prevention programs. The program also showcases companies that have achieved continuous improvements and maintenance of their safety and health management systems. All AGC Chapters are encouraged to submit nominations for each division and occupational category. AGC Chapters must submit their nominations to AGC's Safety and Health Services by December 3, 2008.

Please contact your local AGC Chapters for the application form (a list of Chapters is available on AGC’s Web site at www.agc.org). All AGC Chapters play a key role during the CSEA process. AGC members are encouraged to submit a completed application to their local Chapter. Members must be nominated by their home Chapter to be eligible. Companies who operate in multiple states must submit their application to their “home” chapter.

If interested in applying for AGC's CSEA, please contact your local Chapter for more information or contact Michele Myers at (703) 837-5410.

Tuesday, September 30, 2008

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) sent advance draft copies of the Notice for Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) for Cranes and Derricks on September 17, 2008.

During C-DAC (Negotiated Rulemaking Crane and Derricks Advisory Committee) ground rules were established for the Negotiated Rulemaking.  One of those rules stated that C-DAC members would be able to review the proposal prior to the publication of the NPRM. On September 17, 2008, OSHA delivered the advance copy to C-DAC members and posted the draft NPRM on their website on September 19, 2008.

The NPRM is scheduled to be published in the Federal Register on October 9, 2008.  The public will have 60-days to respond with public comments.

AGC has made the complete advance draft C-DAC NPRM available.  If you have any questions or comments, please email Michele Myers or call her at (703) 837-5410.

AGC Awarded Susan Harwood Grant

Wednesday, September 24, 2008

On September 22, 2008, the Department of Labor (DOL) awarded AGC with the prestigious Susan Harwood Grant Training program for the seventh year in a row.

The  Susan Harwood Training Grant is offered by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) within DOL.  The grant is awarded on a competitive basis to organizations to provide safety and health training  and education programs that focus on recognition, avoidance, and prevention of safety and health hazards in the workplace.

AGC will update and continue to deliver the Focus Four Hazards in Construction training.  This training seminar focuses on preventing frequently–cited construction hazards.  The Focus Four Hazards in Construction are conducted as one-day (eight–hour) awareness training seminars focusing on the four greatest dangers of working on a construction site–falls, electrocutions, caught–between and struck–by’s.  These seminars are held at Chapter locations nationwide beginning in December 2008.

Please visit Susan Harwood Grant Training for more information on the training program.  Dates and locations for the training seminars will be updated shortly.
