TRIP on Nation's Supply Chain and the Interstate Highway System

TRIP has issued a news release highlighting the importance of safety, reliability, and condition of the nation’s freight transportation network following the collapse of Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge.

The release provides data to support the need for additional funding for bridges supporting the Interstate Highway System and states that 3% of the bridges within the system are in poor condition and 59% are in fair condition. A 2019 TRB Report had concluded that annual investments in Interstate Highway System would need to increase “approximately two-and-a-half times, from $23 billion in 2018 to $57 billion annually over the next 20 years” in order to alleviate the aging infrastructure.
