AGC Members Lead ENR Green Contractors List

Wednesday, October 15, 2008

AGC is pleased to announce that its members represent three-fourths of the Engineering News-Record 100 Top Green Contractors List, issued in September 2008. AGC members hold 9 (see below, AGC Members are in bold) of the top 10 and 17 of the top 20 green construction firm rankings.

  1. The Turner Corp
  2. Webcor Builders, San Mateo, Calif.
  3. Skanska USA Inc
  4. Bovis Lend Lease
  5. Swinerton Inc
  6. PCL Construction Enterprises Inc
  7. Clark Group
  8. Hensel Phelps Construction
  9. Gilbane Building Co
  10. The Haskell Co

According to ENR, the green ranking is based “according to revenue for contractors’ services generated in 2007 from projects that have been registered with or certified by third-party organizations…. Such groups include the U.S. Green Building Council and Green Globes.” The list also includes information on the percent of green building projects by markets, such as retail/office, education, healthcare, etc.

AGC members also demonstrate their leadership in the numbers of employees who have been certified as knowledgeable in green building practices by third-party accreditation organizations. The construction firms with the most accredited staff are heads and shoulders above nonmembers and include The Turner Corp (429 accredited staff), DPR Construction Inc (211 accredited staff), Bovis Lend Lease (201 accredited staff), Swinerton Inc (195 accredited staff), Gilbane Building Co (186 accredited staff), and Skanska USA Inc (164 accredited staff).
