CONSTRUCTION EMPLOYMENT DECLINES IN EVERY STATE, D.C. BETWEEN JANUARY 2009 AND JANUARY 2010; 38 STATES, D.C. SEE DOUBLE-DIGIT DROPS

California Loses the Most Construction Jobs, Nevada Has Highest Percentage Decline & North Dakota Loses the Least Jobs, Has Smallest Percentage Decline in Construction Employment  

The construction workforce was smaller in every state and the District of Columbia in January 2010 than it was just 12 months earlier, according to a new analysis of federal data released today by the Associated General Contractors of America.  The data indicated just how widespread the construction downturn is, association officials said, noting that 38 states and D.C. experienced a double digit percentage drop in construction employment.

CONSTRUCTION UNEMPLOYMENT RATE HITS 27.1 PERCENT AS ANOTHER 64,000 CONSTRUCTION WORKERS LOST JOBS IN FEBRUARY 2010

With Nearly 2 Million Construction Jobs Lost Since December 2007, Construction Sector Continues to Drag Down Overall Employment Figures 

The construction unemployment rate jumped to 27.1 percent and construction employment dropped to a 14-year low as another 64,000 construction workers lost jobs in February, according to federal employment figures released today.  The economy would have added jobs for the third time in four months had it not been for the declines in construction employment, the Associated General Contractors of America noted.

CONSTRUCTION DRAGS U.S. EMPLOYMENT FIGURES AS 75,000 IN INDUSTRY LOSE JOBS, ONE IN FOUR CONSTRUCTION WORKERS ARE UNEMPLOYED

Stimulus, Especially Highway Funding, Appears to Be Lone Bright Spot in "Dire" Employment Report As Construction Industry Continues to Suffer from Depression-Era Unemployment Levels

 Overall U.S. job growth continued to be undermined by the severe downturn affecting the construction industry as another 75,000 construction workers lost their jobs in January 2010 and the industry's unemployment rate jumped to 24.7 percent, according to federal employment figures released today.  Excluding construction job losses, nonfarm payroll employment actually rose for the second time in three months, the Associated General Contractors of America noted.

New Data Shows Construction Employment Down 38 Percent in Leominster-Fitchburg, Mass., Up 13 Percent in Harrisburg, PA., As Administration Offers New Infrastructure Spending and Cuts 

 Construction employment grew in only four out of 337 metropolitan areas in 2009 as spending on construction projects dropped by $100 billion in December to a six-year low of $903 billion, according to a new analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America of federal figures released today.

EVERY STATE AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA LOST CONSTRUCTION JOBS DURING THE PAST YEAR, NEW DECEMBER EMPLOYMENT DATA FINDS

Mississippi tops list of Six States to Add Construction Jobs Between November and December 2009, Wyoming Had Largest Monthly Percentage Decline in Construction Employment 

For the first time since the start of the economic downturn, every state and the District of Columbia reported losing construction jobs over the past twelve months, according to a new analysis of state-by-state employment data released today.  The analysis, conducted by the Associated General Contractors of America, found few signs of a construction industry recovery with only six states reporting construction job increases between November and December 2009.

NEARLY ONE IN FOUR CONSTRUCTION WORKERS ARE UNEMPLOYED AS INDUSTRY LOSES ANOTHER 53,000 JOBS IN DECEMBER

With Construction Unemployment Now at 22.7 Percent, No Time to Single Out Construction Industry For Higher Health Care Costs and Penalties, Trade Group Says 

 Deteriorating demand for construction services continued to drag on the economy as new federal figures show another 53,000 construction workers lost their jobs in December and the industry's unemployment rate climbed to 22.7 percent.  The new employment data underscores the need to rethink health care legislation that singles out small construction firms for new mandates and fees, the Associated General Contractors of America noted.

CONSTRUCTION EMPLOYMENT DECLINES IN 324 OUT OF 337 CITIES AS CONSTRUCTION SPENDING HITS 6-YEAR LOW, NEW NOVEMBER DATA SHOWS

Construction Employment Down 36 Percent in El Centro, Calif., Up 12 Percent in Harrisburg, Pa., As Construction Spending Drops 13.2 Percent Compared to Last Year

 Construction employment declined in 324 out of 337 metropolitan areas over the past year as spending on construction projects dropped by over $137 billion in November to a 6-year low of $900 billion, according to a new analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America of federal figures released today.

26 STATES ADD CONSTRUCTION JOBS DURING UNUSUALLY MILD NOVEMBER, BUT ONLY NORTH DAKOTA SEES ANNUAL INCREASE

Too Early to Know if Trend is Emerging As Kansas and Nebraska See Largest Increase;Vermont and Washington See Largest Decrease in Monthly Construction Employment

Construction employment increased in 26 states this November during a period of warm, dry weather according to an analysis of new employment data released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.  The analysis conducted by the Associated General Contractors of America, however, found construction employment decreased everywhere except North Dakota over the past 12 months.

CONSTRUCTION UNEMPLOYMENT NEARS 20 PERCENT AS ANOTHER 27,000 CONSTRUCTION WORKERS LOSE THEIR JOBS IN NOVEMBER

Eighty-Six Percent of Job Losses Come From Non-Residential Construction Sector Though Good Weather Likely Contributed to Fewer Job Losses Than in Previous Months 

Despite a slowing in the number of construction workers losing jobs in November, 19.4 percent of the nation's construction workers are now unemployed according to new federal figures released today.  The figures show that unemployment rates within the construction industry remain significantly higher than any other sector of the economy, the Associated General Contractors of America said.

ONLY FIVE OUT OF THE NATION'S LARGEST 337 COMMUNITIES SEE ANNUAL INCREASE IN CONSTRUCTION EMPLOYMENT THIS OCTOBER
 1,900 Construction Jobs Added in Those Five Areas While 1.1 Million Workers Lose Jobs Nationwide As Employment Picture Continues to Deteriorate

ARLINGTON, VA - Only five out of 337 metropolitan areas saw an increase in construction employment between October 2008 and October 2009 according to a new analysis of metropolitan area employment data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics released today by the Associated General Contractors of America. Meanwhile, construction employment nationally tumbled by 1.1 million jobs over the past 12 months alone, with 328 metro areas reporting losses. Construction employment was unchanged in four metros.
